Making a podcast:
the 5 essential steps 🖐🏼
You want to create your own podcast series, good news: it's easy! (As long as you follow the 5 steps below 😉 )
When you know that 5.8 million French people listen to native podcasts, you can understand that many of us want to enter the great sphere of podcast creators.
For several years, they have not stopped developing for several reasons: diverse and varied subjects, ease of access and use, free of charge and finally: the fact that it is a nomadic media.
Whether you're a brand in need of visibility, an out-of-the-blue narrator or just a regular guy, you probably have a good reason for wanting to do a podcast.
In this article, we explain how to make a podcast in 5 essential steps (applicable as soon as you have your concept in mind).
1. Create your branding
The first step (and probably the most fundamental) is the creation of your branding. Here, the idea is to create a real universe that will allow you to do two things:
- Differentiate yourself
- Creating preference in this jumble of podcasts
This first step consists of determining the visual identity and the tone used in your communication. You will have to develop beforehand :
🧬 The logo, name, description and cover 🧬
2. Choose the format
There are generally 3 types of formats that will allow you to structure your podcast:
🗣 Solo, interview or roundtable 👥
It is also necessary that you choose the length of your episodes:
⏱ Long: 40 minutes to 1 hour
⏱ S hort: 2 to 10 minutes
⏱ In between: 15 to 25 minutes
Finally, you should also ask yourself about the frequency of your publications. That is to say, what will be your rhythm of diffusion (once a week, twice a month...). It is recommended to keep it the same all along.
This choice can be made according to the time you devote to this new project and your target.
3. Choose your equipment
The choice of equipment is also very important. Indeed, the sound quality is probably the most influential factor in the listening rate of your podcast. We recommend you invest in a good a tripod and an anti-pop.
When recording your podcast, consider doing it in the most soundproof environment possible.
4. Choose the editing software
Once you have your concept, your branding, your different formats and you have recorded the voices, you then have to edit the whole thing.
We advise you to plan an introduction (like a jingle) at the beginning of your podcasts and why not an outro (the same thing, but at the end). The podcast must be fluid and pleasant to listen to. We also advise you to embellish the whole with some "sound design" and why not with whole musics.

5. Hosting your podcast
Last step ! You must host your podcast on the web in order to get the RSS feed. This allows listeners to listen to your content.
Know that there are different hosting sites like Ausha, which allow the user to centralize the management of his podcasts, to broadcast them, to analyze the statistics and others.
You will have understood, making a podcast is within the reach of everyone. You just need to meticulously follow these 5 essential steps. 🥳
